We can use the example of an Administrative Secretary in Neurosurgery to help define how you use the Performance Levels to rate different Performance Factors.

Example:  Quality of Work
Exemplary:  On a consistent basis, Sue produces manuscripts free from technical errors and proofed for meaning as well.  She is always able to turn them in ahead of schedule.
Distinguished: Often, Sue will proof for meaning as well as typos.  One one occasion, she caught several inaccuracies in the text of an important manuscript.
Competent: Composed and typed routine correspondence; transcribed and prepared manuscripts as requested or required.
Marginal: Occasionally, Sue does not meet manuscript deadlines and, when manuscripts are turned in, they have typos which should have been detected in the first proofing.
Unacceptable: Sue consistently misses manuscript deadlines.  Getting manuscripts complete and accurate requires five or more proofings.  She does not notice errors in her own proofings.
