Paid Leave - HOOP 2.39 -UTHSC-H offers several paid leave programs to its employees. To be eligible for most of these programs, an individual must be a regular employee and be appointed for a minimum of 20 hours per week for at least four and a half months. Less than full-time, benefits eligible employees, will accrue the benefit on a proportional basis. The following is a brief description of the more common paid leave programs. Detailed information on every paid leave program is contained in Chapter 2 of the Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOOP) as well as the UT-Houston Staff Guide.

Holidays - HOOP 2.37 - To be eligible for holiday pay, an employee must be on paid status on both the day before and the day after the holiday. The number of holidays observed each year fluctuates. Fiscal year holiday calendars are distributed each year.

Vacation - HOOP 2.38 - The monthly vacation accrual rate for eligible employees is based on the employee's length of state service, and the percent of time the employee works (full-time, half-time.) Full credit for one month accrual is given for each month or fraction of a month of service. After six months of continuous state service, an employee may request vacation leave with pay.

Sick Leave - HOOP 2.39A- Sick leave for full-time employees is accrued at the rate of eight hours for each month or fraction of a month of employment. An employee may use sick leave for personal illness, injury, pregnancy, or when the employee needs to assist an ill member of his/her immediate family. An employee is eligible to use sick leave with pay after completing 30 calendar days of employment.

Funeral Leave - HOOP 2.39B - Paid leave is granted for an employee to attend the funeral of a family member. Family is defined as a spouse, or the employee's or spouse's parents, children, brothers, sisters, grandparents, or grandchildren. This leave can be for up to three days, provided the leave does not extend more than two days beyond the date of the funeral.
